Offline | Video postcard from the Autobahn Here's some video footage taken from inside a MINI on one of the Autobahn. It's amazing how little traffic there is on this road - how many Americans dream of a commute like this? Notice also how the slower traffic keeps to the right, and even the guy who was passing made a concerted effort to get out of the way of faster traffic approaching from behind. It's also obvious that the driver is an American... ![]() http://www.cmckinney.net/Mini/ToWork.wmv |

Offline | Its not a question of being nice, I'm sure someone from Germany will explain the exact details, but its the law to 'drive right' just because there's no speed limits doesn't mean there aren't traffic laws. Following too closely, driving in the left lane and a few other things are all big offences. If the US enforced laws + had a better driver education program, perhaps more roads would be like that. I rode with a coworker to another plant of ours in Erie PA. (About 80 miles) with about the same level of traffic, and I think she left the left lane once during the entire trip. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | The left lane is the overtaking lane.....you can't sit in it if someone is behind you. Unless you are driving a white van of course. It's not a question of politeness, it's just the law. |

Offline | It's the law here in Australia too, that if you are in an 80Kms/hr or over zone, then you must use the 'left' lane unless overtaking. I have heard about people being booked for travelling too slowly as well, but doesn't happen nearly enough (20 kms/hr or slower under the posted speed limit). Sadly INIMINI is gone, but never forgotten. |
