Cooper S starting problem

Hi everyone. I have a 2009 Cooper s which I bought second hand in July 2012.
It's been back to the dear I bought it from 4 times already. When I start from a cold start it struggled. It shudders and pops and rattles like mad then stalls several times. Once it gets going it is fine until I drive off then it intermittently goes into limp mode but no engine management light comes on. it has been back and had a new cam chain, then back again for a cam chain adjuster, then they said it was the water pump so back again, and now it's back yet again! The dealer said they took it to BMW and its sorted. The dealer said it has 2 water pumps and they had replaced the main one but didn't know it had 2 pumps and had replaced the wrong one, but said BMW had replaced the second one and it now started beautifully. Went to collect it tonight and it started rough as anything so it's still got the same problem. The service manager came out and admitted the car was misfiring and was not right. He said they don't know what is wrong as nothing ever showed on the diagnostics and BMW said it was fixed but clearly it isn't. Does as anyone have as any idea what it could be because I love my mini but I'm losing the will to live now as the problem seems to be a huge mystery! many thanks

Obviously you didn't take it to the Mini dealer because they know there are 2 water pumps, one is for the turbo and was a recall on certain models.

Thank you for the responses. No i didnt take it to the mini dealer, as the car is still under warranty from the used car dealer i bought it from. They themselves then took it to Mini who told them it had 2 water pumps and the 2nd one was replaced.
This is the first Mini i have ever owned and I know very little about them but I am hoping to learn more from you guys.
I will call the dealer today and inform them what they need to be looking at!
Thanks again
