R56 Cooper S Clutch Cost?

Hi,

My 2007 R56 MCS went in for a service today and they hvae advised a new clutch for my car.

I have had some problems for a while now with the biting point seeming to move randomly and instead of being roughly in the middle of the release of the pedal, is much lower down and seems to bite with the pedal a cm or two off the floor. Once the pedal is fully released, I can feel a vibration through the pedal as though something is stuck and then gets released. It is often accompanied by a shrieking metal on metal sound.

I have been quoted £980 for Mini to replace the clutch.

I was just wondering if other people have had this done recently and if this was competitive?

The car is from June 2007, I have owned for two years and currently has 46k on the clock.

Many thanks,

Darren

HI Paul,

Many thanks for the info and it would be great if you could send over the details tomorrow.

Do the symptoms i describe above sound Clutch related? I've been reading things regarding Flywheel and Gearbox so am completely confused.

I appreciate it's difficult without seeing the problem first hand but the last thing I want to do is replace something pretty expensive and for the problem to remain.

Many thanks.

Could actually be a number of things. The problem is you won't know until they drop the transmission and have a look. Usually clutch pedal pulsation is due to the following causes:

Damaged throwout bearing
Warped clutch disk as a result of slippage and overheating
Broken clutch springs

The cost will depend on what needs to be replaced. If you are getting slippage, then you'll need a full clutch kit and flywheel most likely. The bulk of the cost is labour and I think your quote isn't all that expensive, to be honest.

Unfortunatley the R56 Cooper S clutch is more expensive so you're looking at £576 including vat

Buy the clutch yourself and have it fitted by a local garage.

woosey Jan 30th, 2013 05:13 PM

@Paul how much is a R56 'justa' cooper clutch fitted? :)

Paul@1320 Jan 30th, 2013 06:59 PM

Woosey , I'll find out tomorrow for you.

I will be updating our website with all the different combo of MINI clutches as soon as I get 5 mins over the next week or two.

Paul@1320 Jan 31st, 2013 05:46 PM

Woosey, I'm afraid the clutch is the same price as the Cooper S even though they're different part numbers.

So it will be the same price fitted, it might be worth PM me your chassis number just so I can double check

Doooh didnt spot that bit......unfortunatley its the same price even though its 14mm less in diameter :(

woosey Jan 31st, 2013 07:42 PM

fair enough, so £576 inc vat fitted?

Paul@1320 Jan 31st, 2013 08:04 PM

Yes it would be £576 incl vat, I actually had to go back and check the e-mails again and they are exactly the same price, I've fired back an email to just confirm that they are the same price.
