Clutch problems???

Hope someone can help:

My wife's Mini cooper convertible (2005) has just started slipping its clutch at between 3000 and 3500 RPM. Doesnt happen lower down in the rev range even in higher gears, which is a little strange....

I'm assuming that the clutch is on its way out. Am I correct? If so - whats a ballpark cost for a clutch for this car. Got an online quote from Mr Clutch for £400 fitted with a 2 year warranty - which i though was quite reasonable.

I read someonline on another forum that someone else had exactly the same problem in the the cold, when it warmed up it went away. Does this make sense to anyone at all or is this just rubbish?

Thanks in advance

I paid £400 for supplied and fitted on a Cooper S from Mini specialists Coastal Racing. Cooper should be cheaper because you don't have to take the engine out to fit it.
