Offline | Anyone from Panama here? So I ended up leaving Europe and I'm down in Panama now, and of course I had to bring the Mini out with me. Are there any others who live in Panama on the board? the Mini is a pretty rare car down here but I've seen a few. The other thing that I'm looking for are possible tuners down here. Give me a shout if your in the area. |

| I love my MINI | Hi! Hello, and welcome to the forum ![]() Last spring I spend my vacations on the roads in Mexico and drived for almost 4000km in one week. Now, I am planning a longer drive to south america from Mexico. Maybe you can help me with some info. Someone has told me that crossing Panama's canal is expensive, is it true? I hope you find friends from Panama in the site, meanwhile you can make several latin-americans friends. Best regards. Memo Last edited by gramirez : Dec 8th, 2006 at 08:02 PM. |

Offline | HI Memo, Thanks for the greetings, it's nice to be down here in the tropical climate. Although it doesn't really feel like Christmas season as I'm walking around in shorts and a T-shirt. Especially after living in Europe for so many years. About crossing the canal, if your talking about driving a car across one of the two bridges that go over the canal it's free. There are no tolls for using the Bridge of the Americas or the "New" bridge. I cross over them all the time. As for driving in Panama it's very safe, you don't have to worry about Banditos. The Panamanian driving style is a little odd, the buses and Taxis drive crazy but that's life in Central America. If you want to drive farther south into South America you have to put your car on a ship and go by sea to get to Columbia. The roads are impassable getting into Columbia from Panama. I don't know how much the ferry costs. Thanks again and good luck to you. |
