How do you lose 4psi of boost and still make big power?

Ever wonder how to use less boost and make more hp?

We at RMW believe in giving Mini owners a choice in how they go about their power sources.

This kit was designed from the ground up to give you the lowest possible IAT's ( inlet air temps) that you can have and still make world record supercharger type power. We designed a kit to work together for this application. We really designed this for the track people who have to run their cars at high rpm and high temps for long periods of time.

The dyno sheets below will show you the lower boost on one sheet, logged live
the other is horsepower graph comparison from the "normal" way Mini owners make power
Heat is the enemy of your engine, big boost isn't necessarily good
Notice how much smoother the graphs are with the lower heat

The IAT's were 92degrees F at the end of the dyno pull
subsequent testing from 0-90 back to 0-90 and the inlet temps were 107deg F

if you want to scare yourself with your setup.... try this little test and get back to us

Here is what is in the kit:

RMW cylinder head
RMW Cam
RMW Race header/exhaust
RMW 440cc inj
RMW Pistons
RMW Custom ECU tune
RMW Water to air Laminova intercooler

don't forget the JCW pulley....

Huge achievement!!

See... this is what I was banging on about the other day!!! Making power thorough proper engineering and quality components not just making the charger do all the leg work in hope the rest of it will just about do.

What would you go with? A kit that makes 265whp (thats nearly... what 280-300 at the crank?!?!) running 12psi or a kit that makes guesstimated crank hp of 270-280 with 18psi of boost?

Awesome, guess you don't worry too much about heat with that set up! This is a must for JCW/GP owners wanting big power!

When talking fails, it's time for violence. ~ batou.

the inlet temps are incredible compared to what we have seen with the other setups

sure they work but in the end at the expense of the charger and engine

if you notice the smoothness of the graph compared to the higher boosted car

Also if you do the repeated low speed to high speed runs the normal setup will just back the intercooler and eventually the car will get hot enough to pull timing and dump fuel

DIY New Here Just asking for advice

Hello All,

I have an 03 supercharged mini with a few upgrades. I am considering making some final adjustments to reach my goals set ohhh 5 years ago. My question is for the RMW Vendor primarily but if anyone else has some advice I'd be happy to hear. I keep hearing alot of talk about the custom tuning done by JAN. Well unfortunately, I had know idea this man exsisted and went ahead and got a GIAC tune flash for the Cooper. My question is should I upgrade the intercooler, or keep the stock intercooler and have it custom tuned by Jan. Im not out to break any land speed record, but I like most of us would like to get the most bang for the buck. I just really got into the aftermarket world recently and I would appreciate any advice. Thanks again in advance.

there is a thread on Northamericanmotoring that address intercoolers. We had tested this quite some time ago and knew that it really wasn't that big of a gain changing the intercoolers in the air to air category. That's why we went water to air to get the most cooling.

Better to spend your money on parts that give bigger bang for the buck. Our cam/header combo with the tune will give excellent results. If you want to get to the 240+whp range you will need our big valve cylinder head and big injectors. Feel free to contact me for further info.
