Rattle underneath the bonnet

Hi all

just had my r56 - one week old , back to the dealers with a few problems, one being a rattle underneith the bonnet at tick over, as i had been told before , o"h this is down to the turbo unit ". well it was not, it was doen to a clip on the pipe hitting against the body work. have a look at the way the dealer fixed the problem ( temp). just thought i would open the bonnet to have a look, and could not believe what they had done. if yours rattles as well , see if you also have this clip hitting the body. they did say that he was going to report back to miini/bmw and wait for a "puma" report - not sure what this is, but they cant order any replacement parts, yet as none are available. The other problem was the alarm going off, which was the boot sensor, it also showed open while i was driving the car, but it was shut,

hope this is of some use to you all !!!

Sorry to hear of your problems so soon. I've had my cooper nearly 3 weeks, nothing to report yet! Keep my fingers crossed! I have had the boot warning light come on if I let the boot shut on its own with only a slight push from my hand. If I close it firmly with my hand it doesn't come on.

Somethings never change ie: R50
My test driven Cooper R56 had same issue, give a abit of a slam and it was grand.
When I got into the car,the rear wiper wouldn't work......turns out that the boot wasn't closed properly and it won't work then.

It's a MINI Clubman adventure!

I noticed some of the boots difficult to close on demo cars. They seem to need a firm slam.

I prefer this to the rattling ones on early MINIs!

Interesting reading indeed!

My early December build MCS does have a metallic rattle to it - and I thought it must just be a characteristic of the engine. Haven't several people commented on a diesel-like tickover?

I'll take a peek under my bonnet at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime, does anyone know if this is a widespread issue?

spoke to the sales man at the dealership today, and he remembered them saying that it was part of the fuel pipe that was making the ticking noise,
