Specky, do you never feel (like I did) that you were just not supposed to have the car?? I'm a great believer in luck, destiny, karma - whatever you may call it. It's the same way when you get stuck in a huge traffic jam on your way to work - it's like the 'powers that be' don't really want you to go, and you end up having a horrible day.
How you can still want this car after all that's happened, I honestly don't know. The dealership should be giving you a JC Works Mini for free if you ask me. Have you written to Watchdog online? I did, and I gave them this website link. If more people got in touch - who knows? I'd love to see Nicky Campbell grilling some po-faced BMW exec with THIS amount of ammunition!

Every time I do this, I get the "death rattle" for the next morning for about the first half mile of my journey till it clears and the noise goes.

It doesn't happen if parked in a nose down position and driven away.

It only does this after being run for a very short time after being parked nose down, stopped and left overnight.

Fluid levels are fine.

I'm not too concerned as I assume it's a quirk (and I make sure I go for a quick blast - any excuse )

So, out of interest is anyone else parking on an incline, and do you think this has anything to do with fluids?

My June 07 build MCS is normally parked overnight in the garage. 3-weeks ago we had some new Kitchen Units delivered and stored in the garage, so I had to park it overnight on the drive which slopes downward.

When I started it up in the morning, and reved the engine to reverse up the slope, the engine was very noisy.....sounded as if a chain was rattling. I diagnosed this to be insufficient oil pressure to the cam chain tensioner due to the slope of the drive.

Next morning I let the engine tick over for a couple of minutes and then reversed up the drive. This time there were no unpleasant rattles and the noise has not occurred since, and it's been parked outside the garage on theslope for 3-weeks.

Hey Sheri, i believe in destiny...as we all have one. I believe this car is mine and was meant for me. Things happen for a reason in this life.... sometimes for the wrong reasons. Some may disagree with my views and thats there choice. I WILL keep this car and the dealer WILL suffer when i have finished with them ( or Mini UK will). I'm like a dog with abone now and feel no remorse what so ever for the carnage or cost i will cause BMW. They have a quality product that sells itself and i'm going to pursue this till the bitter end. I get Sulley (my mini) back on Wednesday and i'm hoping to restart my mini adventure that has had an unwanted break recently. PS.... demo works they loaned me is AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE.....

OMG !!!!!!!!! Could'nt pick car up last night!!!! Had a call from dealer saying that the Works kit was fitted and working BUT >........... oil is STILL leakin out !!!
Informed me that ANOTHER new engine is on its way to be fitted and car is being stripped back down in readyness. Went down to dealers this aft to talk it through with service manager and dealer principle. Discussed my options and put my thoughts on what i would be happy with. CLOSURE on this is today. Wish me luck.

Specky i am a very fair person but i think you have suffered enough i personaly would not accept a new engine again i think the least they could do is a new car if you ask me no less, mini should be ashamed of your problems.

Put options of mine to dealer this morning and have heard nothing. The dealer principle is 100% behimd me and is gunning for a new mini for me but is doubtful at this stage as i bought the car as second hand (ex demonstrator) . The new engine is in already and just needs front end building up. I think they think i'm going for it tomoz and returning there Works S demo....... WRONG !!! I need a result before i take my car back. and so it goes on...and on......and on........

Results in !!!!!!! If i'd bought my cooper S brand new they would have given me a new one in replacment. But i didnt so they have offered me my second option to them..... which was....Works Recaro seats fitting, Works shift indicator and works gear knob. £1907 WORTH of bits for free for all my troubles and inconvenience!!!! This is on top of the Works tuning kit already fitted by dealer as a good will gesture! All will be fitted and car ready tomoz 5 pm. Its been a long road to get here but..... its finaly here. Roll on tomoz.... cant wait to have car back. 2 months without it is a long time!

As long as they have the car all sorted out, I think you are coming out ahead. You can't beat getting all of those parts for free! Wow!

Hi Specky! I am soooo pleased that it seems you are finally at the end of a nightmare journey. I hope you will not leave it there though. You should write the lot down, every horrible mistake, every time their promises to you were broken - and I would send it to BMW customer services, your dealership and Watchdog! It should NEVER have been allowed to happen. They MUST know others are suffering the same defect, and still the vehicles are not recalled. BMW should be made to officially explain what happened to you. Free parts are all well and good, but NO-ONE should have to put up with the catelogue of disasters you've had to put up with. I bailed as you know, and although I know I had no other option (I'd had enough), I still feel sad every time a Mini passes me by. I feel cheated by the whole experience. But best wishes & all the best driving Sulley!
