New Mini delivered with Primer Showing

Received delivery today of my new Mini R56 MC from BMW Park Land so how excited was I

Horror to discover on opening drivers door primer showing instead of Chilli Red in strip next to seal

Have been in contact with Dealer who is supporting me and Workshop have completed report to BMW, but what happened to the Pre Delivery Inspection that has been signed off in my Service Book, have spent half the day driving around and on the phone sorting this out, but why its not my fault why are BMW not sorting this out, shine taken off day.

Trying to attach picture will keep trying

Yes what happened to the PDI, but more importantly what is happening to quality control at Oxford?

We are witnessing the disastrous results of factory overcapacity and seemingly overwhelmed and laxed quality control.

MINI, the point is not to make as car as you possibly can. Quality over quantity!

Dealer is fully supportive and of course it is not their fault, went to Bodyshop 'Barrons'who have confirmed that it is primer and that it was caused by grease film on car preventing the application of the outer coat, expect the bodyshop to sort out now with BMW who have been sent a full report by Barrons and Park Lane, that aside the car is perfect other than the storage pack where I have been supplied 2 base nets and 1 side net instead of 2 side nets, still we will get there in the end.

Sure this sort of thing isn't that uncommon with cars in general, it's probably just usually caught before it gets to the customer.

Utterly shocked that such a major flaw was left unnoticed.

Do you have any pictures of the fault?

Looking at that - I would say its been to a bodyshop for paint & thats happened when the masking was pulled off

Agreed !

Looks even more obvious when you zoom in a little - very distinct line can be seen.

Quite why a new car would have had paint is a question which should be asked. Could have been done at the factory or the dealership. My guess is at the factory - most likely as a result of clumsy fitting of the door / damage / repaint. A decent bodyshop will be able to measure the paint thickness and confirm it 100%.

Personally, I would attempt to reject it on the basis of undisclosed damage and non-merchantable quality. You can reasonably expect a new car to have no known or previously corrected defects on delivery, and something fishy seems to have gone on here.

You would be shocked if you knew how many new cars are getting paint at the dealers
