JayM2,

When the noise occurs, where does it come from ?

On mine it seems to be from the area to the left of the speedometer, which is nowhere near the windscreen top.

Somebody else in an earlier thread had the noise, and the Dealer fixed it by (and I quote) "The packing in the Windscreen pillars was loose, and they re-packed them".

He also said this was done without the need to remove the Windscreen.

When you say " had the problem for several months" is your MCS the same as mine i.e. the new build with the turbocharger ?

The noise sounds like it comes from the base of the windscreen, hence, why I thought it was the wipers. I changed them for the flat aero type but the noise remained. When I first heard it it seemed to be biased to the LH side but now it seems more central.

My MCS is an April 2007 build LB/B. (I swapped from a 55 plate CTR).

Hi JayM2,

The area where the noise is coming from on yours is similar to mine!

I will try to describe it: -

If you imagine a wind tunnel with a piece of springy metal hanging inside which oscillates and emits an almost musical tone, that increases it pitch as the air flow increases.

Then that would describe what I can hear. The noise starts at lower speeds if there is a head or cross wind.

Cheers,

caesar

JayM2,

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have been away on business.

Returning home this evening and adhering to the 70 mph maximum, I could hear the noise beginning. It's definitely in the mid-dashboard area to the left of the speedo.

Have you managed to locate where it's coming from, and/or contacted your dealer ?

The sound does appear to come from the same area but as I said earlier I do believe it is coming from the top seal of the windscreen. Try pushing your windscreen with your left hand toward the top next time it happens and see if the noise dissappears/changes in pitch. I have not contacted my dealer yet.

Thanks....anything is worth a try. Would have thought in heavy rain, then water would enter the cabin if the seal was a bad fit, or there would be a cold draft of air. Fortunately this has not happened !

I'll try what you suggest and let you know.

Went out yesterday with my missus driving to further investigate. She couldn't believe how loud the whistling was. Without doubt the noise changes/stops when pushing (just left of the rear view mirror) against the windscreen. The seal appears to be good and it certainly doesn't leak when raining but clearly something is not right. Interestingly enough I took the local dealers Works MCS demonstrator out and it makes exactly the same noise!

Look on the NAM website loads of others have same issue.

Finally bit the bullet and booked mine in to have it sorted, will have to wait a couple of weeks to find out whether they are able to resolve it.

Thanks JayM2. I went somewhere with my missus yesterday, she was not driving but the sound started at about 67 mph.......she could not hear it!

I might see the Dealer or wait until I hear how you get on.

Hi JayM2,

Have you seen the Dealer yet ?

Took mine for a long 'spirited' run early this morning and the noise did not occur, but there was no wind

Yes been to the dealer and ***'s law I could not demonstrate the noise. My latest finding is that it does not happen when conditions are wet or slightly damp. The technician was actually very good and said he had experienced something similar before and it turned out to be an air bubble in the bonding. They offered to booked the car in for a replacement windscreen but to be honest I don't really want to do this, at least not yet anyway.

my car went into the dealer on Mon for a couple of warranty things, and one of them was the whistling noise - it had been in a couple of months ago for it, but typically it didn't happen while they had the car then it went in just before xmas for something else and I mentioned it again - luckily it was a windyish day and they took it out and heard a slight whistle at about 60-65mph it went back in this Mon to have the top trim around the windscreen replaced, and they have replaced the actual windscreen itself too haven't really had a proper chance to test it, but had a quick blast this morning as it is windy out, and all seems good so far and I have a lovely new windscreen with no chips in it, so even better

Unhappy Wind Noise

I have an R56 mini with no sunroof or aero kit but with auto ac. i get a high pitch wind noise at varing speeds above about 75mph and it only appears when there is a slight headwind or crosswind.

it appears to be coming from the passenger side A pillar areaor possibly the windscreen but i cant pin point it, it doesnt go when i open the passenger window.

anyone had this experience or any ideas how to fix as i guess the dealer wont have it happen if i take it in for a road test!!

PS are rattley dashboards common?

appart from that am very happy with the car!!
