Squeaky leccy window on up/down

I know there's a post on windows squeaking when going over bumps etc, but I think my problem is different.

A few weeks ago I first noticed a slight squeak when winding driver's window down. Thought it was just the 'dryness' of rubber and glass and thought I could live with it if it only happened occasionally.

Now it seems very noisy al the way up and all the way down on every attempt - rain or shine!

Have cleaned/dried the rubbers and cleaned dried the glass and it still does it.
Have left the rubbers a bit wet (with screen cleaner) and left the glass a bit wet and it still does it.

And also whilst 'playing' with it there's been the odd time when it's not worked at all. Or is the car designed to let you only have a few goes at winding the windows up/down before it decides it needs a rest!? .

So I'm coming to the conclusion there's probably a problem with the motor mech or whatever.

Anyone else noticed this?

Cheers

Just been back out to the car and window isn't working at all - it's not even doing that 'pop up last fraction' when you shut the door.

After seven months of delighted ownership and only cosmetic niggles, it looks like I've got a real excuse to take it back to Woodmans now

clubman window squeak

Hi all,
just dug up this post, as the drivers window on our 4 month old clubman is making the same ghastly squeaking noise as described above.

It looks as though it might be a warranty issue, but I'm just curious as to whether any one else has the same problem,or even the answer!!

Clubbin' it and Lovin' it

Was ignoring it but its really starting to get on my nerves now.

Cooper Clubman drivers window squeaking

My drivers door window has started doing the same. Have booked the car in for this and a couple of other faults/rattles. I have to say, as much as I love driving my Cooper Clubman D, the quality does not reflect in the price we pay for these cars. Mini/BMW need to do better on the quality front. My brother was thinking of buying a Mini, but has not been impressed with the quality of my car and has now decided not to get one.

I've always used a Krytox product to stop window rubber squeaks, I used to get it from work but I changed jobs, this VWvortex thread shows a VW part number and a GM part number, I haven't used either but will be ordering one soon as the wifes Nissan has developed a squeak too.

Solution below if it's the mechanism, it's very simple really and free.

Go to dealer, have the window mechanism lubricated, squeaking stops.

The end.

What exactly is 'the mechanism'? Does it involve taking half the door apart?

Yes, hence "take to dealer" and since it's under warranty the "free" part.

Oh and I should add it takes 20 minutes or so to do. 19.5 of them dis and re-assembling the door panel and 30 seconds spraying WD40.
