Overheating

I was driving back from the beach yesterday and traffic was backed up for miles. I had driven around 4 miles, inching along under 10 mph, when a yellow light came on. I looked up what it meant and the book said that I needed to drive at a more moderate speed because the car would overheat if I didn't. I pulled over for a few minutes and let the engine cool down. Shouldn't my fan have come on to cool the engine down? Has anyone had this happen to them?

What were outside temps like at the time? Crawling is always the hardest conditions for an engine (of course), but unless it was extreme that doesn't sound good.

It was around 75 degrees and muggy.

That would be my guess too.

What's your build date? Does your scoop have holes or is it a solid one?

Safety fast,
Bill

My MINI was built in April, 2007. It is just a MINI Cooper and not an S so I do not have a scoop. I called my dealer today and they told me to bring it in and I tried asking about the fuse and a recall and he said he couldn't tell me if there was a recall without the vin number.

I just wanted to post and let everyone know that the problem I had was because of the fuse. There was a recall and they repaced the fuse and the fan works fine now.
