Ripped Off.. Or At least Mislead!!!

I feel like someone has just come and helped themselves to my wallet and shook my hand afterwards!!!

So Heres the story... Take the mini for its first service at 17000 miles..... becuase the light is telling me to do so! I wait around in the dealer ship for an hour and half for this fast lane service jobby.... Take out a new works and a z4 to pass the time.. all is well!

Then to my dismay.. on return of my car I'm informed I know Mr.BMW £220 for supply and fitting of a new set of FRONT BRAKE DISCS!!! (the back are due in another 1600 miles) When I was sold the car I was under the impression the TLC pack included free servicing just like the bmws.. apparantly not! I am wondering why I opted for this free servicing when... its already going to have cost me the past of £500 in the first year on servicing alone.... Any advice or help that can be offered?

Andrew

Free servicing is what you paid for, not replacement of parts which need replacing due to wear and tear like brakes or tyres

Yup, what Rakey said

And when you think how much most dealers charge in labour rates, it still makes it a very good deal

Yes but... if you buy the same option on a bmw and land rover among others the brakes are included in this so would it not be fair to assume the same of a mini? I am not disputing the fact that these are wearing parts but so is the oil the filters and everything else they change during servicing? And seeing as the brakes are the most expensive wearing part by a long shot i thought that they would have been an abvious one for free servicing!!

So you think your £100 (or £150 is it nowadays) should cover 50k miles worth of brakes aswell?

Some customers are just never happy

You get 2x oil services, Inpection 1, and a brake fluid change included in the pack, which is an absolute bargain!! At no point is it a 'maintenance pack' like BMW offer, its a servicing pack - plain and simple.

2 services an a brake fluid change on the R56 Id be worried that you needed discs at that mileage, id have thought they would have done double that at least tbh

Cool was wierd how it was happening though.

In fairness an unscruplious sales exec could have led him to think differently. He really needs to find one that he can trust LMAO

That sucks.

Pads and rotors are covered under the warranty/service agreement in the US. Many don't go through them in that period of time, though. Needing rotors at 17K sounds a little questionable, though. Were they warped? Cross-drilled or slotted JCW rotors that couldn't be turned?

As everyone else has said it's a service pack not a maintenance pack, so wear and tear items are extra cost. Sorry. But just wait until your TLC services are all used up by 35K or 2 years. Then you'll feel mislead! As Rakey said you have to read all the small print, especially with BMW/MINI. My advice is go and enjoy your newly serviced car

new discs, and I presume new pads as well ?? is totally unacceptable at 17000mls.

there must be a fault somewhere to cause this, which would be covered by warranty.

either that or they are just ripping you off and doing work which is just not necessary.

what was wrong with the old discs ? what was the reason for changing them ?

You have every right to feel "ripped off" !!!

Totally depends on driving style

The only thing you can do is ask for your used parts back (which they are obliged to give you), then have them independantly tested.

It's not uncommon to go through pads in 15k miles, and if they've run low and scored the discs it's quite understandable.

As per my slight hijack earlier in the thread, my Mums Cooper has had pads and discs changed at 15k miles - yet her previous Cooper didn't have them changed til about 25k miles.
I think it depends on a lot of things.
