Never heard of one going on an R56 but they are known to break on R50's etc.
Shouldn't be to hard to replace but getting the replacement might take time.
Fergal.

The bonnet release stopped working on my R56 before Xmas, thought the cable had just detached itself from the the plastic pull inside the car (as I'd read in previous threads) but a quick trip to the dealer revealed that the cable had snapped... they replaced it under warranty

said they wouldnt replace mine as i had a bump 7 months ago. they also said that my wheel arches coming off were due to this 'collision' too. even though my sisters came off aswell! Ill go in and see how much it will be, it needs a service but would be rather tricky if you cant get the bonnet up haha

I have noticed that you do seem to have to pull the lever quite hard for it to release - I've been waiting for something to happen to mine!

Not sure how much a replacement lever costs, Adam, sorry. However - a tip for others to prevent it happening - stick some grease on each of the two mechanisms which lock down the bonnet U-bolts. You'll then notice that the release lever pops the bonnet much easier ...

Bonnet catch

Hi all,

I had a small problem recently withe catch underneath the bonnet. After you pulled the release catch inside, the catch under the bonnet was so stiff it would release. So i took it to my dealer and he put some "magic spray" on and all is now fine!!! Prob sorted in 5 mins flat!!!
