Had my windscreen changed by my insurers preferred windscreen repair chaps a few months ago (big mistake) and only noticed last night while washing my car theat the big pieces of black trim at the bottom of the windscreen/under the wipers is really loose. I've had the bonnet up and tried to see where it all attaches but can't figure it out.
Does anyone know how this attaches as I really don't want to get the windscreen people involved again. Last insurance claim for bodywork was totally cocked up by their "preferred" cowboys, sorry company.
I wouldn't go messing about with it - it is not your problem.
1) Phone your insurance company and make a complaint about shoddy workmanship while using their recommended windscreen repair company. Make a note of the date, time, and name of the person you speak to. Make it clear that you will not entertain the same company "having another go" at your car since they have left it in a bad condition. Let them know that you intend to take it to a trusted dealership for them to assess and repair the damage, and that you will be sending them the bill. They will of course push back, and when they do, speak to a supervisor, and then the supervisors supervisor, and so on. Go as high up as you need to go to get the right answer, making sure to get the names of everyone you speak to. Stay polite, calm and firm at all times, and if any one of the people you speak to is rude at all, make sure you note their comment down so that you can quote it back to the next higher person.
2) Take it to a MINI dealership and ask them to sort it out, and to check for any other damage (like scratches around the edge of the windscreen, normally hidden by trim, which go down to the metal and will rust if left untreated). If necessary, let them install a new windscreen and repair the hidden paintwork.
3) Send the bill from your MINI dealership, by recorded delivery, to your insurance company, and refer to the date, time, and name of the most senior person you spoke to in 1) above, and politely ask in writing, that they pay for the work which was required to put it right.
4) If you don't get satisfaction, change your insurance company when it comes round to renewal time, and name and shame them and their approved windscreen firm to as many people as you know.
This kind of thing makes me so angry - insurance companies always going for the cheapest possible bid rather than taking into account any kind of quality of service. I will never use an approved repairer unless it is a main dealer or well regarded specialist - if that means that I will have to cough up the difference in labour costs, then so be it. Care and attention costs money, and not all of us are so blind as to be happy with a cheap bodge job
Thanks. I really wish I'd found out about it sooner as it's been quite a while since it happened. My dad's cousin does all our insurance (NFU - farmers see, all related!) so shouldn't be too bad. Have got another couple of problems too.....
It's been over a month since I posted that and I haven't a thing about it.......
I'm sure it won't take 5 minutes if I did it myself as I really don't have the time to chase round after insurance companies so just wanted to know if anyone has some instructions to hand that may be able to help me out......?
It's the big chunky bit of black plastic at the bottom of my screen - it's a bit loose and just need to know how to tighten it up/clip it in/whatever.
