Paintwork Problem

Hi,

Have just registered here and wanted people's opinions on an issue I found with my paintwork today.

My car is a Lightning Blue Mini Cooper - picked it up on 1st March, so 08 plate. I was giving it a wash today and noticed in the bright sunshine that on every panel there are blotchy spotty marks in the paintwork - gutted! Have attached some pictures, which aren't great as I was struggling with the sun, but hopefully you can see what I mean.

Car is booked in at the bodyshop on Friday, but wanted people's opinions on what this might be and the most likely outcome?

My MCS had some marks under the lacquer that were noted on the PDI. The dealer had the panels resprayed and did it very well. I asked for and received an Ipod connector to compensate me for my dissapointment/inconvenience. I am very pleased with the outcome.

A good body shop can do work which is as good as the factory finish.

Yep, there seems to be patches on every panel. It's worst on the left side, just below the back window, but the bonnet is also bad and there are smaller areas all over. The pictures don't show it well, but it seems to be under the laquer. A few people have had a look (none paintwork experts though) and all thought the same. I emailed the pictures to my dealer's bodyshop, but of course they didn't like to say without seeing the car.

Sorry, I'm not sure what QA is? But I think it's not been picked up on before as it only seems visible in really bright sunshine and other wash days haven't been so sunny. Of course now I've seen it I'm noticing it more and have now found the patches everywhere

Thanks.

And thanks Martin F - reassuring to know similar problems have been sorted well.

P.S. I just had a minor paint paint problem. But it was my gas cover being a different color than the rest of the car. Nobody noticed it until it was time to pickup the car, the paperwork signed, and everything. The dealership just exchanged the cover for one they took off another car. I was just glad I didn't have to make the 300 miles roundtrip to get it exchanged.

If there are "patches on every panel" I would reject the car.

A small area, easily rectified is one thing, but marks all over the car are unacceptable.

Your call, of course, but I would not accept it.

If it can be easily rectified by the dealer, then let them do it.
However, if it all needs respraying, I agree with Ken - reject it, and get another.
