Not Happy with Windscreen Repair Company *update 3rd June*

Last week my windscreen was hit by rather large stone which left a nasty crack right in my line of sight. I phoned my insurance company to sort out getting it replaced and had someone from a Windscreen Company in Aylesbury call me and arrange a time to replace the windscreen.

This morning two guys came out to replace the windscreen while I was at work.. They did their job and I went out to pay them the excess and sign the paperwork. I didn't actually look at the windscreen when they'd finished to see how it all look - I really wish I had while they were still there.

As I was leaving work and getting to my car, I noticed that that trim around the top corners of the windscreen didn't look the same as they did that morning with the old windscreen. On further inspection I realised they had actually left the trim in a bit of a state I went home and inspected it more.. they'd also left some sort of residue on passenger side panel by the windscreen which I couldn't remove!! Pics attached to this post as to how it was left

Feeling quite angry, I phoned the windscreen company and complained about how badly they'd left the car.. They apologised and had someone come out to the car within 30 mins of being on the phone.. The guy who came out apologised again, the guys who fixed it shouldn't have left the trim coming away from the car. What he did mention that seemed interesting was that with the R56 MINI, the trim that goes around the top of the car is all one piece and that to be able to replace the windscreen they have to cut the trim, leaving it stuck over the top of the new trim attached to the new windscreen. Not sure if he's right or not as I can't really remember what exactly it was like beforehand, either way it doesn't look how used to any more

Has anyone else who had a windscreen replaced had this problem? If you have, did you stick with it looking like it does or was there a way of replacing the entire top trim to look back to how is was?!

That looks absolutely terrible. Do you mind telling us what company it was as it would be a good idea to stear clear of them. Also has the other guy sorted it now?

It's a company called National Windscreen. The guy that came out applied more 'putty' as she called it, so it now sticks down without there being gaps, but it still doesn't look quite right He said there's nothing more he can do

Thats shoddy workmanship!
Tell em your still not happy then pop done to your local dealer and see what they suggest to do.
Maybe the dealership can redo it and charge it back to the windscreen people?? Just a thought

I've got the car booked in on Friday now for a problem under the dash so I'm going to speak to someone about the trim while I'm there and see what they suggest

that's not good Becca! my dealer replaced my windscreen under warranty and it looks fine - might be worth calling the insurance company and telling them how unhappy you are, maybe they'll suggest going to the dealer

That looks terrible Bec! Can't believe they'd leave it like that!

Mine isn't exactly the same now either after having the replacement windscreen done - the top trim seems to stick out further and on a 'flatter' angle than it did before - though it all lines up and is a proper fit at least!

Hope it gets sorted properly for you at the dealer

Tell your insurance company, request that you speak to a manager and send them the photo's that you have shown us.

Hopfully they will at the very least assess the company again.

I went to the dealer today to see if they could sort out the problem with the windscreen, and after inspecting the car they've found a few problems with the windscreen

- The windscreen itself isn't fitted properly
- The outside A pillar trims aren't fitted properly either
- The right hand door seal is detached and bent, not fitting properly to the car
- The windscreen gutter hadn't been sealed properly - which now leads to draining issues
- Obviously the trim around the top of the car still isn't fitted properly
- And the trim on the bottom part of the windscreen isn't fitted properly

I've been back in touch with my insurance company who listed to me complain about it, and then put me back through to the guy at National Windscreens I told him all the problems MINI had found so he's now coming out to look at the car himself on Wednesday to see what he can do about it as he says he wants to try and fix it himself first! I'd prefer MINI to do it, but I have to see what he can do first.

Not very happy

Blimey, that sucks. So was anything about the windscreen fitting actually done correctly then??

Hope you get it sorted soon - that last thing you want is to get MINI all soggy inside!
