Strange basic bluetooth fault

Had a strange one today;
Brand new car with the USB & basic bluetooth setup.
The bluetooth worked fine. The car went into a dealers for programming work for the works seats. Afterwards the bluetooth wouldnt work. From what I understand more programming was needed
Today I did some audio upgrade work on the car. The bluetooth module wasn't touched. But on completion, the bluetooth wouldn't work fully. It was seeing the phone & the phone was seeing it so we knew no plugs had come out, but the phone wouldn't connect. Mini told me the phone N95 wasn't compatible, however it had been working & an iphone & samsung had similar results
To prove that the fibre optic most ring was connected (it goes from the stereo to the joint USB/bluetooth module) I decided to plug in an ipod, instantly an little aerial symbol appeared & the bluetooth worked perfectly - and stayed working with the ipod unplugged
