I've taken it to the dealers 3 times now, they say nothing is wrong with it, and the clicking noise it makes is perfectly normal!

I know for sure it didnt make this noise when I first got the car only in the recent few months.

At a loss on what I should do now the clicking noise is really loud when the bonet is open and just really annoying when it is closed!

Take it to a different dealer, and see what they say.

Any chance you can post a sound bite? It might help us to identify the prob!

Made a quick video using my mobile phone, the quality isnt that great but you can just about hear the clicking....

Video - Mini Cooper clicking engine

The strange thing was, I was in MC Donalds drive through today the clicking was really loud and then all of a suddent it stopped and didnt come back on until later

This is the problem I have, when I take it into mini they say they cant hear anything so Im guessing its intermittent

You sure thats just a cooper sounds more like an S! Sorry folks I have to say this..... this sounds normal to me, it sounds just like my S. Must be the charateristic!

I am now off to get a job with a MINI dealer. I should be pretty good eh

Sorry toilet duck, not sure if there is a prob could be the tappets although I think I could hear the waterpump groaning as well! Don't let this put you off! keep an eye and ear on it. hopefully someone else can help!

Hi Toilet-Duck, my R56 Cooper has done only 400 km, and since day-one the engine's been making the same clicking / tapping sound as yours (more noticeable on a cold start). At first I was a little concerned and annoyed, however, after some reading on the net and listing to other people's Coopers, I am now rather convinced that this is what the engine should sound like, a characteristic, as many have put it.

I collected our MINI the other day and it makes the same noise.

To be honest i wont be taking it to a dealer, as in my experience that only seems to make matters worse

Ive had rattles and other random noises, take it in, they tinker with it, and it comes back with more weird and wonderful noises (even came back with an ice cream stick in the back once )
