Unhappy Engine started making clicking / ticking - 2500 miles on clock!

Hi all, first post here

Hoping someone can shed some light on this problem, bought my mini cooper in 2008 and havent had any problems until now....

A few weeks ago my mini started to make a slight clicking noise and it's got slighty worse over the past few weeks.

It appears to be a constant clicking noise but its only really loud when the engine is first started on a morning or if the bonet is open, after a few minutes the clicking seems to get quieter but it always seems to be there.

I bought it new in 2008 from mini and its only done 2500 miles on it!

Its definatly coming from the engine, any ideas on what it could be?

Ive booked an appointment with my mini dealer, but just wondered what it could be in the meantime.

Cheers!

Cheers!

He said it was a 2008 Mini and didn't specify it was convertible, so we'd like to think so!!

With the Cooper 'S' R56, what you are hearing is the direct injection for the fuel system.

The answer you got from the dealer sound's very, very familiar! I think it's called "being given the brush off"?

We've taken our R56 S back to our dealer three times regarding a nasty rattle coming from either the clutch or gearbox and we've been told that "they all do that" which is utter bolox!

P.

IT sounds to me like the timing chain, a fairly common problem from what I can tell. a couple of the R56's here I know have had the problem, sounds a bit like a diesel, well more so than is normal anyhow ;-), not sure if it related to the engine problem that followed but this was on an Cooper S not cooper......
