Are you using the MINI supplied Y-Cable? The USB port can only control the iPod using the older serial communication and the MINI Y-Cable has a built-in USB to serial converter. The DRM on the audio files makes it necessary for the iPod to decode the files and play them through the AUX port.

IIRC, the iPod shuffles are basically Apple thumb drives without the encryption of the other iPods, which lets the car read the MP3s directly.

Curious if your cell works with the Second Gen MINI?

There is a problem with the new generation ipods not working with old cables ( i think its something to do with firewire). A colleauge at works new ipod won't charge using an ipod charger. but it works ok on an older generation ipod. I think you need to get a new compatible cable. Check out the ipod forums for details.

Yeah you need the Y cable, the iPod isn't new enough for it to be the Firewire removal issue. Go and pay the stealers a visit!!

It's a Mini Adventure.

The changes to the newer gen Apple stuff (iPhone 3G, 4th Gen nano, and the 2nd Gen iPod Touch) removes the firewire connection (see: iPod, Connectivity), but for the MINIs this only effects charging capability, everything else should work.

NewMiniStuff sells a connector to adapt plugs that charge using the firewire connection to the newer USB.

Any non-DRM MP3's saved to an iPod in generic storage mode will play fine using the iPod lead, maybe that's how your're playing audio with the nano?

Hi all, in what seems like ages away, prob second week of April I will get my MCS R57

Included within my is Chilli, Visual Boost, HK and Full Blue Tooth. I know that USB sticks will work fine My question is, will I be able to play videos from either a Nano 3rd Gen or Nano 4th Gen on the Visual Boost Screen. Will the cable that is supposed to come with the car with this spec allow me to do this.

Many thanks Pips - A
