What do you mean by manually? Have you tried pulling the maunal release cable hidden under the rear seat? If not do.

Not sure what the cause of the problem is. There have been posts along this line before, so there must be an answer on M2 somewhere.

when you drive off do your doors automatically lock? if they do, unlock the car and try it then.

You have to lift out the base of the rear bench. It may require you to be firm with it as it's clipped down. Have a look in the manual, it's all in there.

ok, i take it you have a new 58 or 09 plate MINI. my cooper's boot used to get stuck on the rubber seal and you really had to give it a bloody good pull to open it.

when you unlock the car and hold the boot unlock button on the key fob, can you hear the boot lock going ?
also, have you tried to release the boot with the boot release button under the rear boot handle ?

i've got a PDF of the MINI manual, so i'll have a quick look to find out where the manual release is quickly.

ok, on an R56, it reads
"In the event of an electrical fault:
1: fold the rear bench upwards
2: pull the ring"

it looks like the ring will be on the passenger side of the car once you've lifted the seat bench up.

hope that helps, else i'll run outside and take some pictures for you.

thanks for all your help!!! iv taken the bench completely out and i can not see a ring at all i have found a diagram where it should be (right in the centre) and its not there. Yes my mini one is an 09 plate, iv given it a good pull but im the the strongest off people. wometimes when i press for the boot to open on the key it makes a funny noise, not like its opening?!?!

if you look at the rear of the car, is the boot lid flush with the bodywork or does it stick out a bit ?

if the boot lock is making a noise, it's likely it's stuck on the rubber seals. sometimes i had to get ahold of my boot handle with both hands and give it a bloody good pull upwards to open it. make sure you press the button and give it a bloody good pull, as it might also not be releasing the catch fully.

just gonna go outside quick and see if i can find the boot release on my R56, hold up.

i think its jutting out a tiny bit. the noise kind of sound like its failing i cant explain it...iv tried to give it a good pull but nothing is happening!! iv some how put the back seats down so i can get in the boot from that way and i cant see anything it the way blocking the catch.

my manual says:

on certain national-market versions, the tailgate/split door can only be unlocked with the remote control after the car has been unlocked.

yeah that relates to being able to open the boot without having to unlock the car first.

ive lost my manual, which is annoying cos it has all my finance paperwork in it as well (good work me !)
