United-Kingdom SRS light definitely means no airbags!

Having just bought a MINI Cooper only three days ago and have already got the dreaded SRS warning light on, I have been reading with interest all the threads on this issue.
It seems that some people believe that this does not render airbags so that they do not deploy. After speaking with BMW they say that it definitely turns off the airbag deployment, and not just the one there may be an issue with.
Obviously this is a serious safety issue, and i am not sure how people have come to the conclusion that these bags would deploy if the light was on.
Really frustrating as everyone knows this should have been a recall in the first place

When you say 'speaking with BMW' do you mean your local dealer as many are rarely 'expert' on such things despite what you may think........I have also seen/heard BMW info in the past that says it does not shut down the complete SRS system but only the faulty part, but would not guarantee this is correct.
I would suggest you get it fixed by a good independent auto-electrician at reasonable cost if you prefer not to reset it occasionally using a reset tool.

Thanks mab, yeah I spoke with a dealer in Liverpool, I suppose the issue is that no one seems sure whether it isolates the problem or shuts the whole system down, with kids in the car I dare not take that risk.
I am getting a new seat belt pre-tensioner put in, and hopefully that will sort the problem.
