| Mini 1 hydraulic tappet problems
Good Morning,
We have a '07 mini one with 30k on the clock and it has recently developed a fault. I had to go and tow it back after it lost power.
Upon further investigation it appears that it was only running on three.
A compression test revealed very poor results on number 3.
We took the rocker cover off and discovered that the two tappets on number 3 inlet were stuck open, ie about 3mm taller than all the others.
We thought that this would cause the lack of compression as the valves were not shutting.
Theye were cleaned and reassembled, another compression test revealed only a marginal improvement.
Three questions:
1. has anyone else suffered any similar issues?
2. Are these engines likely to hit the valves with the pistons if the valves are not fully shutting or they a 'safe' engine.
3. Would all the carbon issues discussed have a bearing on this? There seems to be a lot of 'gum' within the engine.
