Strange Smell from Vents

Update: Had the Charcoal Air Filter for two days now and the air in the cabin is fresh. No smells even faint smells. The real test will be when the car has been left for a day or two but it looks like the filter is absorbing the smell. From day one I thought it was engine fumes or more specificly the PCV, I can't prove this however the one thing which Charcoal is great at absorbing is Hydro Carbons which everyone knows is the building blocks for fuel and oil and as the PCV deals with oil, it kind of makes sense. Now I need to wait for my warranty to run out so I can go to a specialist and pay for them to change the PCV system as Mini are sticking behind no fault code, no fault!

Update:

Had the Charcoal filter for a couple of weeks now. Both Monday mornings after the car has been left over the weekend have been fresh. So in conclusion, weird smells being produced by the car but no faults or symptoms and no leaks detected or dropping fluids (so car perfect except smell) stick the upgrade filter in. They are supposed to be good at trapping hydrocarbons so if your smelling hot engine gasses or fumes tainting the air quality, this filter should help. Mine is now spot on fresh.
