the only indicator that the stop/start system is active or not is the indicator light on the switch..

I'd rather push my mini than drive a ford or anything french..

Criteria for buying a diesel..1)long journeys.2)motorway miles.3)minimum 14k mls per yr..

Certainly does seem a bit temperamental compared to the one on the Merc BClass I've been driving recently which kicks in pretty much all the time after 5-10 mins driving (having said that the Merc mpg is pretty appalling so probably desperate to save as much fuel as poss...)

Ive owned my coop s since november and its only start/stopped once and that was on the test drive!! i do around 50 miles a day commute so surely it should be doing it more often.
Its not been that cold up here and i dont use the heated seats or many other things.
My old coop diesel did it at every junction roundabout or set of lights and diesels take a bit of cranking to get started so it couldnt be the battery.

Something that affects stop/start that ive posted before:
If you reverse off your drive before putting seat belt on.Make certain you put on seat belt before moving.
This has helped other people so try it.

Why should that be
Do you mean seat belt on before reversing off - or seat belt on after reversing but before driving off?

cheers

Put on seat belt before moving,my daughters stop/start would not operate.

In the end we found out that it was the fact that every morning my daughter reversed off the drive and then put on her seat belt while the car was still running.

As soon as she started putting on her seat belt before moving, the problem stopped and the stop/start started working correctly.

I know this has helped other people so please give it a go.

Ive never had the problem on my r56 cooper s,but like ive said seemed to be a problem on my daughters mini one untill she started putting on her seat belt before reversing off the drive way. There seems to be so many things that can affect stop/start so trying anything is worth ago.

Like if there's an 'r' in the day of the week?

My stop/start hasn't operated so far this year, except once yesterday - no rhyme nor reason that I can see. But I like the idea of recalcitrant operator somewhere inside the BCM who is 'professionally awkward'.
