57 PLATE Cooper Clubman, Hesitation & Strange Noise, lack of power performance flat s

My 2007 57 Plate Mini Cooper Clubman is hesitating when pedal is to the floor but not when half way, there is a flat spot in performance at around 2500rpm for a split second But have noticed the need to downshift more than usual on my hilly drive to work and struggling to overtake on the dual carriageway since this has occured, recently taken to a local garage and had a computer diagnostics run on the vehicle which shows no faults and there are no warning lights indicating anything different. Also noticed that the engine does not seem to be running smoothly but would not describe the sound as the death rattle.

Please help shine some light on this as my local dealer wants to start with taking a payment of £110 just for the first hour of diagnosis.

If it's not throwing codes, did you check for dirty air and/or fuel filter?

Had similar symptoms on a 2009 Dooper - air filter was black and plugged with debris. Garage charged me for changing it at scheduled service but clearly didn't actually change it.

Hi Dean

If is a petrol version have a look at the airbox. they tend to brake have a look at this link I have seen a few go here it's a know fault week point.

If you look at item 8 find that on your car and give it a wiggle if it flaps around
You need to get it replaced. But you can try to re assemble it. You will need to undo the bolt on the left of the box twist it up wards and push it back it to the airbox, the twist I down and put the bolt back in. It will last for a few day then it will fall out again.
Trouble is normaly you need if this happens you need replace both bits of the airbox :-(

Also I would say get some fuel system cleaner through it to something like BG44k for petrol of do a sea foam treatment in it. the gen 2 engines suffer with carbon problems which might be your problem as well
