Hello all!
Hopefully someone out there can help me with my R56
MCS. I apologise for the long thread.
In november i woke to find my car developed the dreaded death rattle. A cold start rattle followed by a struggle to keep the engine ticking over, misfiring and lack of the usual Mini Cooper S power.
After a full day of investigation I was informed that they could not diagnose the exact fault and they suggested it could be 1 of 3 potential faults (fuel pump, timing belt and engine cylinder head/ valves), but couldn’t guarantee that the individual fixes would solve the complete problem but insisted that all 3 should resolve the problem of my beloved Mini. I was then shocked to be told that the cost of the engine repair amounted to over £4000 (my warranty had just finished). I was obviously very upset by this; it was a known BMW Mini R56 engine fault, which had developed on a car that had always been highly maintained.
After consulting Mini UK they offered to subsidise the components relating to the known fault but not the labour by the "specialist mechanics". I found this hypocritical that BMW Mini were moral to the fact they acknowledged that there was a known fault, but were unwilling to cover the total cost of the repair. Also the fact that the "specialist mechanics" couldn't diagnose the fault in the first place.
I agreed to get it done. To cut a long story short i had to take it back in on 3 more occasions as it wasn't fixed at all, still misfiring and making the engine warning light come on.
Its now fine thankfully but alot of confidence lost! And to top it off they have now made an official RECALL on the water pump. Having spoke to a few people, they have informed me that this also may have been an issue with the above problem because it may cause the engine to be under more stresses????
Could anyone help me with if this could have caused this? and if anyone has had the same problems?
Thanks!!!!!!
