Cooper - clicking noise from footwell when pulling away
Hi all.
Our brand new Cooper seems to make a clicking noise from the footwell when pulling away from standstill or at a roundabout etc. it sounds a bit like a relay.
Not heard anything on mine, but could well be a relay controlling something, brake lights, stop/start system, maybe, or it could be something moving in the glove box?
Have you got the Hill Start Assist option on the car?
It tends to produce a small click after it releases the brake... Noise should be coming from the area of the clutch/brake pedals (assuming you have a manual transmission and the HSA option...)
Just taken delivery of a bog standard Mini and am getting the same single click when pulling away.
Difficult to isolate. As a passenger I thought it was coming from the footwell but 'er in doors let me drive it and seems to be coming from the back of the center of the dash'
Well it is due to the brake pads or the brake calipers. So you need to check them. if they are ok then you should go to some expert who can tell you . I think you should check it by you dealer because your car is under warranty.
If it comes from the wheels, then you should only be able to hear it with the windows down. That was a problem I occasionally have and has to do with a small play between the brake discs, wheels and bearings. Removing and refitting the wheels and correct tighteting of the bolts helps if that is the problem. It is especially noticeable when reversing...
I have a click from the dashboard when changing direction. Got the car up on ramps and got the wife to keep rocking the steering wheel left then right. Turns out the noise is actually coming from inside the steering rack. Replacement being the only cure, am putting up with it now its out of warranty.
I guess my point is that noises from this area sound like they are coming from the dash when sat in the car.
