DPF Blockage, remap??

Hi,
About 3 weeks ago the diesel particulate filter light came on in the car, i promptly thrashed it up the motorway for 10 mins to no avail. I then thrashed it up the motorway for about 40 mins and still the light remains on!
Ive bought some Wynns DPF cleanser and put that into a full tank of Shell diesel last night, Im going to take it for a good run down the motorway on Sunday.
I drive as economically as possible most of the time, doing mainly short journeys (around 20-30mins) and I'm not on the motorway very often so I think this is why I have got the blockage.
Can anybody explain to me what I can do now? Ive called my mini garage twice and they dont have a clue what Im talking about and want to charge me £100 for a diagnostic!
Ive heard about getting it remapped and the DPF being deleted but Im not too sure how this is done and what the implications are.
I would appreciate it if you could give me some advice, especially if youve had the warning light come on in your Dooper.

Hi Porn,

There is two ways a DPF system will regenerate. On all DPF systems the computer uses pressure sensors on either side of the particulate filter to sense exhaust gas pressure increase on the inlet side of the DPF, as well as a pressure drop on the exit side of DPF.
When the computer senses it needs to do a DPF regeneration it will do one of 2 things.

1. It will automatically conduct a DPF regeneration whilst you are driving ** (usually done when the car is cruising on highway,at constant speed or when there is little to no load on vehicle)

or

2. It will activate a light / warning on the dash, where you will be required to pull over and let the car sit while it carries out it's DPF regeneration burn. ** Takes about 20mins - 1/2 hour.

So thrashing your mini will do nothing for your DPF regeneration .....

You really need to read your owners manual to confirm which DPF regeneration system mini is using. If you still have a fault or you thing the DPF regeneration cycle is not working you need to go and see a mini dealer.

If mini say they dont have a clue what your talking about they are fools, I'd be going somewhere else real quick.

Remapping will not fix this
Removing the DPF is not a solution either. I.e - emission control, design rules, plus lots of other vehicle controller systems rely on reading from your DPF and exhaust emissions.

I hope I've help a little.

Cheers

Hi,
I have been told by quite a few garages that it needs a good run down the motorway at at least 2000rpm. Its had that, its had 3 weeks to sit during the day whilst im not driving it to do a regeneration.
Mini said they can replace the DPF but its £1200 just for the part! and they didnt have a clue what I was talking about, they just quoted for the part

Hello again, It's unfortunate that your mini dealer has no idea. They are supposed to be trained and current with this technology. It ****es me off when dealers and workshops are like this.

Eventually you will need to replace the DPF, it won't regenerate for ever. Although they do have a reasonably good life span (usually approx 10 yrs) every item is different and if there is a problem elsewhere with your vehicle, it maybe causing your DPF to block prematurely.

Oh by the way, when i meant sit any wait i was referring to leaving it sit with the engine running. There should be a button or switch to activate it, to tell it to do the regeneration. But as i said earlier, it may not be this "type" of system.

You really need to find a new service/workshop, sound like these guys are either useless or out to make a quick buck.

All mini workshops have the ability to hook a diagnostic computer to your car. It will tell them if anything is wrong, what to replace and any other pertinent info.

Hope you sort this out.

Cheers
