2007 Cooper S Engine Won't Start! Help Please!!

Please help!

I'm a lady driver who has no knowledge on cars at all. My car was driving fine about 3 days ago. Yesterday I tried to start it and it would tick over, but go no further.

I automatically presumed it would be the battery, so charged it overnight - went to start it this morning and there was no difference. I tried jumping it, but again no change.

When the ignition is on the only warning I get is an orange engine management light.

There's about 3/4 tank of petrol in the car, and plenty of oil etc. so it can't be that.

Any ideas??

Thanks!

It can still be a weak battery. If there is a shorted or dead cell it won't make much difference after charging.
