Massive oil leak

Hi everyone first post here but thought I'd share my experience. I started getting the 'death rattle' on my r56 so thought I'd buy the new tensioner and change it as its an easy job. Bought the part Friday in order to fit Saturday.

The mrs was driving home Friday and started to lose oil fast! By the time she limped home the engine was almost empty! Not good!

Anyway Saturday I thought I'd have a look round for the leak and took all the air filter and some other pipes off to investigate and saw the chain tensioner was almost hanging out!

This is where all the oil had leaked from so I changed the part but the old one was in the same shape as the new one. I changed it anyway topped up with oil and she is running like a dream now.

I would say that if anybody gets the rattle first thing I'd do is make sure the tensioner is tight before you buy a new one as it might just of worked loose and it will save you £30

Hope this helps someone
