INPA/DIS install/use and key sync

Hi Guys,

I will give you a brief down low on my recent situation.
Bought a 10plate write-off mini cooper D. Fixed the body work and anything else that needed doing to get it back on the road. I then had to set to on the interior and replace both airbags and seat belt plugs. Along this process i came across a dash that hadn't had the airbag deployed. It had slight marks on so i had to recover with a leatherette. I will upload pic thoughout the post for anyone interested in the repairs.

So with all that sorted i was left with computer to sort. I had diagnostic software for all VAGs and a couple of other cars. i knew these wouldn't work with the mini. So i set about finding the relevant software and anything i needed to get into the system myself, as i don't believe in going to the dealer for what i knew i could do.

***** I must stipulate that any coding/programming/diagnostic is done at your own risk i can not be held responsible for any problems caused by what you do*********

After much research i found INPA 5.02
DIS V57
SSS V32
Diag head
R56 V41 DATEN File

Also a K+Dcan lead, i bought mine from ebay cost me £12.50 from china and works a treat. The drivers should come with the lead. Set the lead in device manager to COM1.

I also needed VMware Workshop. I could only go to version7 as my laptop wasn't compatible.

I found INPA 5.02, DIS V57 and SSSV32 on ebay and bought it.
It is also available free on

Once all has been downloaded, Install VMware and diaghead.

Once those have been installed

Unpack DIS, SSS
Go into DIS and locate the Other.vmx the file should be a virtual machine configuration file.
Right click and sent to desktop as a shortcut.

Go into SSS and locate the Windows XP professional.vmx again should be a virtual machine configuration file.
Right clock and send to desktop as a shortcut.
Exit all and return to desktop.

double click on DIS, it should load into VMware. click the start so the DIS starts. Wait for it to load and then exit all. Do the same with SSS and then restart the computer so changes can take affect.

Load VMware and go into EDIT
VIRTUAL NETWORK EDITOR

Locate Vmnet8 and click on it.
Make sure both HOST connection and DCHP are unticked.

Then locate Vmnet1 in the subnet IP change it to 192.168.68.0
Then click DCHP settings and change the start IP to 192.168.68.1
Then Click apply and ok
Close VMware

Now search for a file called ifhsrv32 and make it a shortcut to the desktop.

Connect the lead to the car and laptop.

Doubleclick ifhsrv32
Then Open Diaghead then click RUN.

Open Dis again in VMware

Wait for it to load and then in DIS go to administration, then Connection settings under Admin. go into there and it should either be connected or say there is a conflict. press ignore if there is a conflict and it should then work.

You should then notice that the diaghead has gone from repeatedly saying free to keep alive.

you are now connected to the car. Go back to the main menu of DIS and go into diagnosis and follow the instructions for your variant.

In SSS select administration and interface. Then Add then the IP needs to be 192.168.68.1 and press continue.

Then same again with diaghead to connect to SSS

Then INPA following the instructions below

Installing INPA

copy and paste your downloaded complete INPA installation software folder to your C drive.
in your INPA folders click programmisation then double click setup.
It should default to English so ok this.
Click next till you get to the selection for software to install.
Select or deselect in options boxes but as a minimum select INPA ,EDIABAS and NCS expert if you want it.
Click next you will be asked to backup and restore (I declined this , unticked the box and skipped it all)
Make sure quick launch and desktop icons are ticked.
Click next.
Now select STD-OBD in drop down box (should be by default).
Click next.
Now select the com port number you selected earlier from the drop down box and tick the USB to serial adaptor box.
Click next and install (if it ask for backup and recovery just click skip to these prompts if you wish)
Finish install
Reboot
Now go to C/ediabas/hardware/OBD/OBDsetup.exe
Double click OBD setup.exe
If all is well you should get a black DOS box up with various settings shown with a full house of ok’s on them, you may get the start one saying warning instead of an ok if you have selected an alternative com port just ignore it)
press any key to exit if the list is ok.
Reboot
Go to C/ediabas/bin..
Find the OBD.ini or OBD file and double click
Your settings will be dispayed make sure they read as below
PORT= COM? (your com choice entered and set earlier)
HARDWARE=USB
RETRY=ON
UBAT=OFF (type this command in manually in this position)
Exit and save
Right click andCopy the amended OBD.ini file and paste it into your C/windows folder
Now go back to the INPA \install folder on C drive.
Open C/INPA folder/REFERENZ/INSTALL.
Double click instprog.exe
Ok the german writing page
Select English and continue.
At destination drive page make sure C drive is selected and continue.
Now select BMW “GROUP RECTIFICATION PROGRAMME UK” from the list and click continue
Now select the following:
Ediabas tick update box
INPA tick update box
NCS expert expert tick complete box
click continue
Tick the box “delete the old NCS expert “
Click install
double check that C:\EDIABAS\BIN has been added to the path string in enviromental variables (right click my computer/properties/advanced/enviromental variables and select path in the list, click edit check its there and exit without changing anything)

Unpack R56 DATEN

Open the R56 file locate and open daten, scroll down to a file called laden.
Double click that and watch as it installs through DOS.

To get this to work plug int the lead to the car and laptop and turn the ignition on.
Open ifhsrv32 first then open INPA

You should now see battery and ignition dots black.

If they are great.

for mini r56 it was SHIFT+9 for me this will load up a little pop up that you are able to select different modules.

You can go in to all the different modules but do not do anything apart from read and clear fault memory, unless you know what your doing.

***Now for the EWS alignment***

Because the original 5.02 INPA hasn't got the full R56 set-up for the newest minis the R56 DATEN fixes this.

Now press SHIFT+9
In the pop up select engine
Then Select your engine.
Mine was the DDE6
Once that loads up read and clear the fault memory then notice the EWS section on the right hand side.

Press the related F so it loads into it.

When doing this i did have a few script errors but it did go through.

Then i pressed F2 RESET

It came back with an error so i then pressed F1 Store and that went through fine then F2 once that had finished.

Then exit INPA properly and close it.

Then close ifhsrv32

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the lead.

Then hopefully your mini will start.

If you have any problem with the instructions of installation or the use please feel free to message me.
