United-Kingdom 2011 Cooper D / Poor idling after new ecu

Hi All,

Looking for some info and advice, on the below issue?

We put my wife's mini into BMW Williams for the retrofit of the drl lights, the lights went in ok, but they couldn't start the car!

After spending some time they established the ecu had been fried and needed to be replaced. They did this and since on idle the car can't stabilise itself and sounds like a truck Diesel engine. No fault codes come up, it drives normal, just this nightmare idle issue! It's back into today, this will be its 4th day of investigate work, anyone got any ideas?

Im thinking injector or fuel pump issue.

Check all the fuel lines and the battery connections.

Would be very surprised if it's a fuel pump issue, especially if the pump was fine before the retrofit. They should, as a basic check, analyse the injector timing.

Also check engine timing (i.e. the timing belt).

Well we have the car back, it's about 99% right! what's more worrying is BMW can't advise what the problem was!

They have admitted the engineer, left the ignition live, when fitting the drls, so they believe this is what caused the ecu to blow.

Just hoping we don't have a major failure, in the future.
