England Mini failed emissions test the second time

Hello,

The car (Mini one, 2007) today failed a second time on the emission test with the following reading:

fast idle
CO Max: 0.20% Reading: 0.25%
HC Max: 200ppm Reading: 367 ppm

second fast idle test
CO Max: 0.20% Reading: 0.63%
HC Max: 200ppm Reading: 399 ppm

The first time it failed I was provided with fuel cleaning liquid and was told to follow the instruction and return again for a retest, which was also a fail.

I am visiting a BMW specialist to have my car plugged into their diagnostic system for codes. Can anyone suggest a likely culprit which could be at fault? Based on research it would suggest a bad 02 sensor or catalytic converter.

I would like to hear any suggestion.

Regards

update: After visiting the BMW specialist today,he suggest a new 02 sensor and cat converter. I convince the garage technician to firstly install a new 02 sensor and seeing if that resolves the emission problem. The work will be carried out tomorrow.

I will report back tomorrow if the emission problem is rectified. Pray for me guys!

update: Further test were carried out which determine the Post-Cat Oxygen Sensor had expired and will be replaced come Monday.

Therefore I will update this thread on Monday with hopefully good news.

Pray for me guys.

Post-Cat Oxygen Sensor was replaced, although there was a improvement in the reading, the car still failed the overall emission test.

A new catalytic converter is on order and will be fitted by the garage technician tomorrow.

Fingers crossed I hope that solves the emission problem for good.

I did read somewhere, sorry I'm not sure where, that Cat converters
had a lifetime warranty but dealers don't tell customer as they can get
them to pay for a new one.
Might be worth looking into???

I cannot find any information of the mini website regarding the lifetime warranty.

The car has reached over 100k miles therefore experiencing hiccups is common. I recently replaced the water pump at a cost of £125.

update: The garage technician must be a member of the MoneysavingExpert forum because he just saved me over £300.

Yesterday I reported that a new catalytic converter was required to resolve the emission test issue. However before replacing the cat, the technician cleaned the old catalytic converter using a cleaning solution and BAM!!! I passed MOT.

If anyone else is experiencing similar problems to mine, run a high-quality cleaner before spending $$$, my 2 cent.
