Water Ingress R56 mini cooper 56 plate

Hi,
I have a major issue with my car at the moment and could really do with some advice. Over the past few weeks we have noticed that behind the drivers seat (right side UK) the carpets seemed wet but in the last week the front drivers carpets are wet and strange electrical issues are happening. I managed to look under the carpet and there is probably 2 inches of water under there! i have drained it off but now everytime i open the car the alarm goes off, even if i drive down the road the alarm will sound.

Is there anything i can do to stop it? i've taken it to the local garage but they will not work on it untill the electrics have dried out! but that could be weeks!

Anyone had any thing similar? i obviously have a leak someone but not sure what to do

Any help would be great!

My 09 Cooper S is doing exactly this. At the same time, the heater started not working, and I was looking around and learned of the common coolant loss/water pump issue. Its with a MINI dealer at the moment, and they've said that I need a new water pump and originally quoted 460 for that effort. I phoned about to a non dealer and was quoted way less, then the MINI dealer said OK we can do it for 299 all in. This doesn't actually fix the alarm problem though, that was just for the heater. They claim there is water ingress into the cabin NOT related to the water pump, and suspect an autoglass fitted windscreen is at fault. It would take 365 worth of labour just to investigate. I called Autoglass on the off chance they could offer assistance, and found out that even though they fitted the screen way back in Jan 2012, they will come and check the car out. MINI dealer won't allow Autoglass to do the work on site, so I'll need to bring it back home, with the alarm going, for autoglass to check this out, and then no doubt go back to the dealer when it doesn't have a leak. I'm really dubious about dealers at the best of times, and a "potential fix" is replacement of a junction box @ 900. I wish I'd got rid of it 6 months ago when I was looking at a Countryman. It does seem like a miraculous coincendence that a water pump dies, and I get wet carpets and a fault alarm. I'll keep you posted on progress. Did you get anywhere with yours? I just want to disconnect the sounder for the alarm

hi guys,First post but thought i would say there is another water entrance point.This is on the roof gutters. The water tracks behind the gutter and into the driver door seal at the top by capillary action.This then tracks all the way round the seal and to the bottom of the door where it seeps inside.My brothers had issue after issue till one day i chucked water dye on the roof and tracked it. Was cured by unscrewing plastic gutter seal ,cleaning it and sealing it to roof with high modular silicone. Took weeks to find but found it in the end.Also mashed the electrics in the process but which went haywire.4 litres of water in floor too.Hope this helps.Also happened to my r53 cooper which needed a new module.

I had autoglass out today, and they checked the replacement screen for ingress and it was sound. no leaks at all. the tech was actually awesome, he spent 4 hours looking and checking where water might be coming in, and found similar as you said - the drivers door sill is where it seeps in. I've got a lot of water under the floor, and I'm drying it out by having the newly fixed heater on full belt with a window cracked a bit. I've seen actual puddles in the footwell behind the drivers seat as the car is on a slight incline to the rear. I've soaked up about 7 towels worth of water so far. Autoglass chap said the drivers door rubber seal isn't as tight as it could be, so I'm taking the MINI to a non dealer tomorrow to get that replaced and see what they say about removing more water. Seems that dehumidifiers, fans, silica gel all help, but the real answer is strip out the seat, lift the carpet and dry it properly. One good thing, the amount of water I've removed so far has stopped the alarm fault. Its driveable again which is great.

Further update here.
So I collected car from the local non MINI dealer. They replaced the drivers side door seal as recommended by Autoglass and they used the underfloor drain plugs to "empty" the water out. Carpet and underneath the carpet is was still wet, so the car was left over the weekend indoors, and I've been using a fan heater on the footwell behind the drivers seat for maybe 3 hours at a time. Car runs fine now, no alarm problems, and with the new heater working I see no condensation in the mornings. I'm running the car with the heater on for a bit longer (in my drive) just to try to continue the drying out, but at this stage, I'm not going to the expense of ripping our the seats and carpet to dry completely.
On a side note, I filled out a questionnaire for the local MINI dealer who were less that helpful, and said I'd never return. They were on the phone seeing if there was anything they could do to change my mind. Nothing in my opinion makes up for poor customer service and over-charging. I let them know that when my M135i arrives in march I'll need to work out where I take it for servicing, as its not likely to be them!
