Couple of things come to mind. First check the hydraulic fluid level, if it's between min and max, it's likely unrelated to the slave/master and your prospects are less optimistic. What's the clutch pedal feel like?
Sounds to me like the clutch is dragging, but the difficulty shifting into gear could also be due to worn synchronizers.
Other issues could be bad pilot bearing, misalignment of transmission housing (i.e. bad motor mount) or bad clutch release mechanism.
I'd take it to a shop for further diagnosis.
