Sunroof repair in South-East England/London

Folks,

the sunroof in my wife's Mini Cooper S (R56) appears to have had it, but I've heard that it can be repaired cheaply (not by mini obvs) on the Honest John website.

The suggestion is that this 1600(ish) job can be done by "Bristol Sunroofs" for 245.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

If so, does anyone know of anyone that can do a decent repair, that doesn't cost too much, in the London/South-East region (of England)?

Cheers...

The problem was that it would raise a few mm and then close again. With a little "gentle persuasion" it would open all the way.

Mini investigated, taking the panels off in the process and told me that it would need a new cassette. This was quoted as a 1900 job but with goodwill from Mini would "only" cost 1300. The roof is back in place now and needs a service.

Hmm... Usually the problem can be solved by greasing the rails and recalibrating the roof. Now if they said they need to change the cassette it may be that the rails have buckled.

Before you go and pay all that amount, try to recalibrate the roof. Make sure the engine is running, because if you do it on battery alone it will never open. The computer uses voltage measurement to determine if an obstruction is present or not. A low battery will cause false readings and make the roof close.

To do the calibration you need to hold the constantly pressed at the closed position (1st not 2nd stop) for about 15sec and keep holding until the roof does a complete cycle.

Hi Guys,

Re. this 're-calibration'.
The pan-sunroof on my 07 S has seemed to 'lock out'? in the closed position.
It tried to open but now I'm getting nothing whatsoever. - no 'click' from switch/solenoid. - I thought fuse had blown but hasn't.

Unsure if there's a lock-out solenoid or re-set button somewhere in circuit?

I've tried to manually open the roof with the allen key provided but the mechanism appears jammed solid.

Any ideas?
