Fire damage R56 MCS, need help from you guys!

Hi,

My R56 MCS engine bay suffered fire damage, the engine, electricals, wiring, bonnet, bumper, plastic parts, and lamps etc are all damaged...I'm desperately looking for a front half of a R56 MCS. I called a couple of carparts breakers and they asked me to give a list. How the heck am i supposed to give a list? I am not a mechanic...I told them I want a front half cut. with engine, ecu, wiring and everything. sadly, no reponse....

I sincerely wish anyone could give me some leads on whom i could email or call for the front half of a R56 cooper s? sincere thanks.

Cheaper easer to buy a whole damaged car, much easer to transport take your time stripping off the parts, and easy to sell what's left when finished.

where to find a damaged car but has useable engine, ecu, wiring etc?

Hi ya

It's very hard to work out what you need with out stripping the car and seeing what you need.
If I was you I would make a list of the big bits ie bonnet engine harness ect and make a list like that to start with.
if your unshore take a load digital pictures and mark or ring the parts you need
make a picture list then conrtact someone like mini matt or bm spares they should be able to price it all up for you. And get the correct colour.

Unfortunately these cars can't just be bought in lumps it would be a lot easier for shore.

The main problem you are going to have is if the ecu is damaged another one will be a pain to fit, it will require recoding to the car.

Are you going to do the work your self or do you have someone in mind to do the work.

What caused the fire ? and did it come in contact and body work ie chassis legs engine bay bulk head.

This is not a cheap fix

recoding could be done at agent I suppose. I have engaged an accident repair workshop to do he repair work for me. Fire was caused but some weird electrical fire. The whole engine bay went up in flames, even windscreen cracked but chassis and interior are all ok. Just the expensive stuff in the engine bay are all gone.

You realise of course if you have someone else like a body shop rebuild the car for you you will way exceed the parts costs with the labour costs, BMW charge around Ł140 an hour, this is why a lot of cars are written off by the insurance companies even though outwardly it doesnt seem too bad.
Ok a lot of back street garages will charge less but it depends on the type of finish you are looking for too.
You will probably find as always theres more needs renewing than you first think, has the repair garage given you a fixed repair cost? or just a rough estimate? if its a variable estimate it means they can pile the costs on if necessary and you might get halfway through and run out of money? so be careful.

What year is and millage is your r56 mcs and with out detailed pics it very hard to give the correct advice

I feel your pain and please don't think I am being negative.
but I think it's going to turn into a can of worms,

I have seen so many people get deep in to these and the cost rockets it's not a fixed price job, because you can't test much till you get it 75-80% finished then you my have to take it apart to trace electrical faults, boxes, looms etc

Personally if it was me doing this job, I would find out where the fire started first thing.
I know you say it started in the engine bay wiring some where, but my concern would be if the engine loom has been damaged by fire it will have caused shorts in other parts of the loom causing damage to the body loom all over the place which is possible it my also have damaged the cars computers there are quite a few and the all talk to each other and are coddled to each other as well.

My second thought for the fire would be has any warranty work been carried out like hpfp, aux water pump. If the fire was caused by this I would be straight on to mini as it might have been a faulty component . But you would have to be shore ie a proper vehicle report.

Personally if the heat cracked the windshield I would say there's a good chance the bulk head my have been damage the big problem is once you heat this metal it goes soft and looses all it's strength it may look ok but it's not, I think when you add up everything it's going to make it uneconomical to repair and I really hate to say that I try to save everything I can but it's safety first with me.

I personal think you are going to have a bill for 4 to 6k from what you describe if your lucky and your car my not be 100% safe at the end of that, and tbh 4-6k is if you use second hand parts, and dont have to start fixing other things you find as you go which you will

Personally I would advice you to save your money and a massive headache and part out the good parts on your car and buy another one or clam on your insurance.

Really sorry to sound so negative, I expect you fell sick about it anyway.
