England R56 MCS Pinking, Pre-ignition, Fix

Hi All, its along time since I've been on here but I thought I'd share something that I discovered myself last week.

My Wife's R56 MCS has always 'pinked' badly in hot weather.
We had the Seafoam treatment last year and it appeared to make the MCS run better than it ever had but still pinked slightly in hot weather, always OK in cool / cold weather!
Recentley the pinking had got worse, I was told it needed a decoke but I though if that was the case then it would pink all the time as the engine would still be at running temperature be it hot or cold outside ambient temperatures.
So last week we were going to Devon for our Holidays in the MCS and I was worried about this 'pinking' issue damaging the engine knowing that the MCS was going to cover in excess of 1000miles, then I remembered that years ago my Friend had a brand new Sierra Cosworth 4 x4 Sapphire with the same problem, this was in fords for several weeks to no avail, it turned out that this car should be run on 'Super' Unleaded'
With this in mind I ran the MCS tank low and filled up with Shell V Power Nitro+. On the first tank full it never pinked once! and we got 420 miles from the tank. When that run out we wasn't near a Shell petrol station so put in 30 BP Ultimate although that run better than normal unleaded it did still pink slightly now and again on steep hills. By the time that run down I'd found a Shell garage and then brimmed the tank With Shell V Power again, No more Pinking.
So there you go if you have a pinking issue try Shell V Power and see if it cures the issue. Its dearer than Diesel but cheaper than a decoke.
Hope this helps.
Let me know your views.

These MCS are meant to run on normal unleaded but it didn't matter what brand unleaded went in ours still pinked in hot weather, which I was fed up with, now I'm well pleased with our MCS.

I think that running a turbo motor on anything less than 98 octane is asking for trouble, especially if you mash the accelertor to get the "overboost". My 2007 R56 MCS occasionally pings on 98 octane (Shell V-power) when at full throttle and greater than 3.5K rpm. It only does it for a half second or so, then I guess the electronics control it. It does make quite an audible sound and a very noticable loss of power for that fraction of a second. I usuallly add fuel injector cleaner to every second fuel tank, although haven't used any for the last few fills and I seem to be getting slightly BETTER fuel consumption (7.8 vs 8.5 l/100km)
