Water Pump & Air Conditioning Problems

Got a couple of problems with my standard R56 Cooper and was wondering if anyone knows if they are linked or what might be causing this.

Driving about in the city a couple of weeks ago and the engine warning light came on (yellow) to warn about engine temp. Checked the coolant and it was low. Topped it up. A few days later it was slightly lower again.

Got a local mechanic to have a quick look. He reckons the water pump isn't turning consistently, possibly due to the tension of the belt. He said there is a tensioner for this that may be broken. Does this make sense? Either that or the water pump is just knackered. There are no visible leaks though coming from the car.

I am now also noticing that the Air Conditioning isn't working properly. The light comes on okay and it blows out air but this air doesn't seem to be cooled enough.

If i turn off the Air Condtioning and turn the heat up, the normal fan blows out warm air. (If that's any help in diagnosing things).

Any ideas? Are these likely linked or just bad luck together?

The belt that turns the waterpump also turns the aircon compressor so it could be related

Okay, thanks.

So if the belt is possibly loose like the mechanic said, this makes sense that the air con and water pump aren't working properly.

Anyone know how many hours labour it would take to get access to and tighten this belt?

The tensioners adjust themselves so if the belt is loose it may just need a new belt which should be a 10 minute job to change but if it needs a new tensioner I am not sure how long to change one as I have only worked on R50s & R53s but I would have guessed at around 30 mins
