Fan coming on when engine cold and staying on after engine turned off

I have 2007 Cooper and I have had problem today with fan coming on when I start engine even from cold, and staying on for few minutes after engine turned off. First journey around 6 miles after car had been idle all day, then only went 4.5 miles and this happened again tonight. Heater has not worked over last couple of days either. Any ideas

We are having the exact same problem with out 2010 Mini Cooper, apparently this is a common issue around the 50-60k mark.

Our mechanic has told us it is due to a failing Coolant Temperature Sensor which is in a Thermostat Housing.

I am going to have it out with BMW Mini today as it is only a year out of warranty and apparently in the USA all Minis were recalled to address this issue.

I had the same problem, it turned out to be a faulty sensor that was replaced under motorplan.
