For the last week my R56 Mini Cooper has been miss firing on acceleration and generally lacking in power. The only fault code give was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Checked with BMW and they told me the part was about £500 including vat. Also they said that there may be several versions and it would have to be removed to check which version I have. Did some research and Bosch sell a version of the MAF for around £150 to £200. The mechanic told me it was positioned under the air box, so I thought I would take the car apart and try to find out which version I have. On doing this I could not find anything looking like a MAF. Can anyone help me with its location or send me a picture of where it should be as some diagrams I have looked at show it inline from the airbox?
There are two kinds of MAF sensor, one is MAS sensor located on the intake tube next to the filter box, the other one is beneath filter box on the crank shaft its tiny, bolted only whith one screw, in the U.S. it's about 70 dlls a new one, I've already replaced the sensor once cause some back fire, loss of power, weird engine noise. Its really easy to remove the filter box there is just one torx screw on the lower left corner, once you take it pull out evenly the box, previously detach the intake hose, if you remove the sensor unplug the negative terminal first.
Hi
Can you tell me if uk models have the MAF sensor on the air box or just us models
