Hello all, I'm hoping someone has experience of a high pressure fuel issue and I would really appreciate any advice before the garage fleeces me.
Symptoms: EML came on today, 3rd time in a couple of months. Shows code P302c = low pressure in high pres circuit. Clears after restart. I have noticed it takes a little more cranking than I would expect to start, and idle can be a bit variable. No other issues at all.
I was thinking the high pressure pump, but it has not had the expected trouble starting and stalling or any rough running. I had a ford that showed this type of code and the garage wanted a ton of money to change pumps a regulators but it turned out to be the fuel filter! Cheers, FRAJ
I have been a bit of a geek and logged the fuel pressure whilst driving to work. What is clear is that the pump produces plenty of pressure upto 2000 psi, but it is very spiky. The engine light came on after a series of 4 spikes within about 10s when it dropped to around 90 psi. It was spiking down to this kind of pressure without the light coming on but it seemed to need a series of low point to trigger the fault. Also, it always faults when on light throttle mostly downhill. After it faulted the engine management kept the pressure very low which meant it felt slow and stutters at low throttle.
So, if anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. It looks like a fuel pressure regulation problem if anything.
Thanks
Thanks, I was thinking it might be the pump, but the symptoms are a bit different to those I have read before. Also, is the pump issue mainly on earlier cars? Mine is the facelift 2010.
So, a quick update, the car is now fixed and it was the HPFP as custard said. Not a huge surprise, but a few interesting points:
Clearly the issue is not limited to 2007-9 models
The symptoms on mine were different to others I've read about - I was suffering high and low pressure errors but always started fine.
MINI gave me a 50% discount on the part as goodwill without me even asking (I will now ask for some more, so if anyone has examples of that please let me know.)
It still cost me over £600, which is a very expensive way to get your car washed and vac'd by the dealer.
Cheers.
two fuel pumps on cooper s one on engine is high pressure fuel pump (5kpa to 8kpa pressure) and a low pressure fuel pump in the fuel tank (5bar
tail tail of high pressure failure is cold starts after being sat over night car should with no throttle crank and fire within 2 seconds and then idle at 1100 revs then after 5 minutes ish reduce to 800revs
would need to live data the pump system see what pressures you get and when
