P2177/P2188 codes

Hi, previously had P2188 (too rich at idle bank 1) which disappeared for a month after clearing. Today, EML came on again with P2188 and P2177 (too lean at idle after bank 1).

Any ideas what the actual problem is/might be.....seems a bit contradictory having too rich and too lean simultaneously

Bank 1 pre cat, bank 2 post cat. There are 2 Lambda sensors on the car. Now just because these codes have been triggered it doesn't automatically mean that the lambda's are at fault, it just means that this is the last line in the cars's sensors thats picked up a reading that its not happy with which may be caused by a component further upstream so I'd be checking any vacuum hoses, the coil pack or it could even be the high pressure fuel pump.

Thanks Sean, I'll check the hoses first. How do u check a coil pack (no signs of rough running so nothing jumping out there).

Have a look at the coilpack, pull the HT leads off and check inside the sockets for corrosion. If corroded, clean them up with some fine wet and dry and the same to the ends of the HT leads.
