Knowone as actually seen a car (apart from the motorshow) with sat nav installed, so I don't think anyone will be able to answer for definite.

The current system is a DVD based sat nav so I would be amazed if the new one isn't.

I believe the current DVD drive is under the passenger seat, so I assume this is where it is in the new one as well.

According to full press release im Motoringfile the Sat Nav is DVD and is situated behind the control panel in centre panel below the CD. Sounds much better than below the seat.

The article in Motoringfile is much more detailed and gives the relevant information on the Sat Nav.

having had a play with the new Sat Nav on Saturday I am glad we have ordered it, its a totally different unit the current.

Software is MINI specific rather than a BMW peice of kit used.

Very much like the 5 series, where you get to control so much more than just your destination, its also the audio, the PDC visual, tyre sensor information, its all in there

Although the map visuals will take some getting used to, its black backgrounds with coloured lines for roads, very stylish, but not sure its practical or it could be that its new and different that has thrown me on it, guess only time will tell once having lived with it.

Is the new Sat Nav screen integrated in to the central speedo dial? My current mini has the speedo next to the rev counter above the steering wheel and the sat nav is where the central speedo would be. I much prefer this style of layout - I think the central speedo looks rubbish (please do not shoot me). Does anyone know if this layout is available in the new mini or do you HAVE to have the central speedo even if you have sat nav????

No, they've sorted out the "Mikey Mouse Ears" as the people at MINI refereed to them, and the Sat Nav is now better integrated than before, in the central speedo section, with the speedo now "floating" around the outside.

I know what has been bugging me about the new nav, on the route selection there was the usual fastest route, shortest route, avoid toll roads, but there was a dynamic route selection which is not on the current nav, wonder what it uses as its search parameters?

Does the new Sat Nav have traffic info on it? That could be the dynamic selection so it avoids any traffic jams?

Went in a mates merc with this traffic info in and it was brilliant. Made me start thinking about having sat nav again Wish I could afford it

I guess it does, as the current Sat Nav has it on, TMS is the offical name for the traffic information
