Armrest: 2nd Gen versus 1st Gen - MINI Cooper Forum

Is the armrest for the 2nd generation MINI the same as the 1st generation pictured below?

It appears the same, but we'd have to check part numbers to be sure.

I guess they could have designed the center console so the rear of it had the same attachement fitting as the 1st Gen console:

my deraler told me that it is exactly the same.
Is there any storage space in it?

I've just bought an R56 armrest from the parts department (spending a credit note). It has a button at the front which releases the top, it folds back to reveal a nice little cubby hole for sweetie papers etc. Part No: 52 160 416 589 £99
