HI FI Upgrade Output ?

HI FI Option

I am going into my local dealer this week to order my final spec for my R56 MCS, the only extra I am unsure about is whether to add the 10 speaker upgrade.

One sales person said it is still made by Hardon kordon but they dont put HK on the speaker grills, but if I took a speaker out it would have HK stamped on it.

Not believing this I asked another sales person, they said it is BMW `s own system, much better than the old HK Upgrade.

Now more confused I looked in the brochure,
Page 35 states the amplifier is 320 watts
Page 76 states the amplifier is 230 watts

It seem that bmw don't even know how powerfull it is, the old Hk was 320watts.

The old HK cost £370 The new upgrade costs £320 must be the only extra to have gone down in price, any body know who Makes it ? How Powerfull it is ? is it worth the money ?

Harmon Kardon definitely make it but i'm not sure on the power rating.

From what i've read its very good although I haven't heard it myself. People that do have it have said it sounds slightly better than the old HK system.

I have the hi-fi option on my MCS and I promise you it is 100 times better than the previous HK spec on my old MCS. The sound is much fuller, louder and more detailed. I'm not sure if HK make it but it does sound fabulous, and worth every penny.

I havn't heard it myself yet, as still waiting for my MCS to be delivered. However, I would ignore power outputs, they are totally meaningless when trying to assess how good a system is.

Look at this way, in my lounge I have a Cyrus/JM Lab system (for music) and a Yamaha/Kef system (for TV/Movies). The Cyrus puts out 50 watts a channel, the Yamaha can put out 130 Watts out of 7 Channels!!! The important part is that when you play music through them both, even using the same speakers the extra power doesn't make any difference. It is hugely dependent on the relative sensitivity of the speakers. I would never choose one system over another becaue it has more power, there is so much more to think about.

My advice, would be to go for it. Its only £320 notes, and your unlikely to regret it, whereas sticking with the Voost system leaves the door open for regrets and thats never good.

My dealer showed me a car with the new hifi upgrade, played a CD and the sound quality is SUPERB. I'm a hi-fi nut and its as good as ANY in car stereo ive ever heard, definitely better than outgoing HK system. its an absolute bargain at £320 so have specced for my car - cant wait

It must be good to make Justin sound fantastic ! I may have to do a sound recording of myself, maybe would make me sound good too ?

I just can't wait to hear what a good song sounds like with it.

Heard the original Stereo on 56 Cooper , it's a bit lifeless, so this is on my tick list )

I think I might upgrade ,I had a listen to the Boost on the New Cooper and just felt it didn't have the same quality sound as my 03 s Boost stereo. The dealer agreed when we compared, then I supose he would hoping I would upgrade!!

Guys, please keep an open mind. I have to say that Justin Timberlake's new album is fantastic, helped no end by the production skills of Timberland. Well worth a listen.

I keep an open mind to all music and when it comes to raw talent I would say Justin has the edge over the likes of The Game and 50cent who in my eyes are raps answer to the Spice Girls. Im also a masive fan of Jay Z and think Girls Aloud are a great POP act.
