R56 Steering Wheel 2 spokes vs 3 spokes

Hi everyone, first time buyer of Mini Cooper.

I have a question on the MFSW and the standard 2 spokes steering wheel. Is the thickness of the steering wheel (the diameter of the grip) of the MFSW the same as the standard steering wheel?

Comments and pictures are much welcome and appreciated. Thanks so much.

If you want MFSW, you have to have the 3 spoke. If you look in my gallery, I think theres some piccys of a 3 spoke MFSW. I can't really comment on what the 2 spoke feels like, but the 3 spoke is spot on perfect Welcome to MINI2 by the way

thanks for the reply

I tried the MFSW and I must agree that the gripe is "spot-on". However, I never get a chance to test the 2 spokes and have only seen the pictures on websites. Can someone how might have test driven one with the 2 spokes and comment on it?

BTW, there are 2 protrusions at the 2 and 10 o'clock positions of the MFSW, do you feel bother by them? It is suppose to be a better hold but it kinda hurts my fingers when holding on tight.

The Mini Cooper I test drove had the leather 2-spoke and it feels that it is of the same thickness as the 3-spoke. However, IMHO it does not look that good and the 3-spoke it does worth the difference you have to pay. Of course each to his own, so if you like the 2-spoke, go for it...it has the same feel as the 3-spoke, if you are worried about this.

Thanks :)

So true, the 3 spokes steering wheel looks much better than the 2 spokes.

3 spoke also comes with Chili Pack if that makes any difference. Otherwise its a £180 option on either Pepper or "nothing" MFSW is an extra £170 on top of the 3 spoke wheel

The protrusions are due to cut-outs for your thumbs when holding the wheel at a quarter to three position. One of the best features of the 2 spoke wheel I think. Overall it has a real quality feel to it.

Xenon lights vs MFSW

A little off topic but what you think about the Xenon Lights option?

Out of all the options, I think the Xenon lights option is the best bargain. And if that's the case, would you choose Xenon lights over the MFSW?

I got xenon lights and MFSW

But if I had to choose I'd prob say the xenon lights would be the best option. I nearly didn't spec them on my 07 Cooper but managed to add them at the last minute. Phew!

Thanks for everyone input. I have placed the order for R56 MCS and reached a compromise with the 3 spokes sport leather steering wheel without the MF

Hi, can you tell me how you got the 3 spoke without the multifunction? I didn't want the multifunction, so my only option was the 2 spoke. (don't know why they changed the "base" to 2 spoke instead of the 3spoke like 2006). I had an option to upgrade to the $400 wheel, but it's not available with automatic transmission. Is this what you did? thanks.

The order code for the 3-spoke Leather Sport Steering Wheel is 255.

Maniac,
According to the list my dealer sent me, that code is for the sports leather multifunction steering wheel, which is 3 spoke, for 550. Is this the one that you are talking about? Or is there another?

There is a separate order code (249) for the multi-function feature.

There was a big snafu where people who ordered the 3-spoke MFSW ala carte ended up with just the 3-spoke wheel because the dealers didn't realise they had to specify 255+249. The ordering system may have been "fixed" so that ordering 255 automatically includes 249, thus making ordering 255 by itself impossible. You'll have to ask your dealer whether this is the case.
