Question 2 Gen Armrest

I had the armrest fitted to my R53 after I'd bought it but it's not the same as the slide top armrests. Its got a lift up lid that snaps shut. It's still genuine MINI, it was fitted at the MINI dealer. I have put it on the order for my R56 and am told that they have the slide lids now with the silver struts connecting it to the centre flooring. I don't like the way my current one looks as it's just screwed in on a metal frame above the handbrake. Maybe it's like that because it was fitted after I got it.
Can someone confirm for me that if I have the armrest factory fitted on my R56 that it will be the slide top with silver struts? I'll take it off the order if it's not because I don't like the one I've got!

The arm rest is silver and the struts go down beside the cup holder, looks much better than the R53's one my mates got.

The whole unit pivots up, I find it gets in the way of using the handbrake a bit when down so is easy to push up. The top cover does slide back to reveal the small compartment.

I've since run a lead from the AUX in at the centre console under all the trim and up the back of the armrest and into it for IPOD connection.

theres even cable grips up the back of the armrest if you look, so you dont see any of the cable at all.

Don't forget to take the one on your r53 off and sell it on ebay to someone who wants one

This is the most unprofessional bit of site management I have seen since I was banned from a certain other site...at least they had the excuse that they were enthusiasts who had strong views and not professionals paid to keep thier cool!

Part exchanging my R53, wouldn't the dealer have included that in their valuation of my car?

Hi there Lordy,

The 2007 Accessories Brochure does have it on page 29.

Part number 52 16 0 416 589 - £99.99.

The picture of it on the page is definitely next to a R56 seat but the armrest's colour does look diffrent from the factory fitted ones that I have seen. Where the factory fitted ones are in a silver plastic finish this one seem to be in a glossy black finish. The "leather" portion seems to be the same standard Grey.

Hope this helps.

Lightbulb

Sorry - I should have just scanned it from the word go... but my scanner is acting up and only does black and white at the minute.

Hope this gives you some idea though. I think it is exactly the same as the factory one except for the colour.

miniXL. The armrest shown in your picture is the armrest I had retro fitted to my R53 and it has a hinged lid (as shown in your picture). From what previous people have said on this thread, the armrest fitted by the factory is slide lid with silver. My hinge-top armrest is fitted quite differently from the silver factory fitted one. Hope this helps
